Evolving Forms of Media Good or Bad

Evolving forms of journalism

Old Forms
-slow distribution
-pulication delay
-limited to who has voice
-money roll

The problem with the forms o jurnalism is not that the information is uninteresting, but that it's not quick enough or as accessable as many would like it to be.  In the older wa of doing things it is hard to have the most up to date news.  When newspapers were popular people had to wait till the next day to find out any type of news that related to the previous day.  To many that just takes to long.

New Forms
-faster
-more accurally informed
-more people have a voice

The new forma of media we have today have made people better informed about a topic or event that has occured.  People can o their phones at anytime of the day and just look up any news fed and any time.  There is no delay or wait till the next day.  They even get more information about the news by using the interent and looking the topic up.  The interent has created a place for people to get the answer to just about anything.  The problem is wheather or not the information is from a reliable source.  The new forms have also allowed many to speak out more about a topic the either like or dislike.  It allows people and other companies to see what people really care about.

Now there are both good anf bad sideds the inprovment of these new media forms.  The old forms took forever for people to get the information they want.  Now all they have to do is look at their phone or on the interent.  The problem is that sometimes it's too fast and the story can constantly change.  People being able to comment on a story or website can be great because you can see what people really think.  The problem with the honesty is that, the people are only honest because they can hide behind a screen name.

Hate Speech

Many people are now expressing hate in a different kind of way.  They are using the internet more and more.  Hate groups are now using social networks like facebook and twitter.  They are not posting hate messages but they are recruiting people to join their groups.  They use these sites to commuicate with eachother about meeting sand other events.  They can not get in trouble for these sites because they are not saying anything that would be considered hate on the sites.  There are terms and words that are considered hate speech that make them shut the site down.

Fighting words are considered:
 - Intent to harm
 - Incite violence

One of the articles that we read online helped establish what hate speech really is or is considered.
The Obama article for example:
- They created fear in people by saying that he  was forming white re-education camps.
- They compared him to Adolf Hitler
- A paster of a church was quoted sayign that he was going to pray that Obama dies
- A man that served our own contry said if was to take a gun to Washington would anyine follw him

To me personally I think that people that are using these sites are just hiding behind the computers.  I think they have a way to speak how they truely feel without having to show their place.

Are we better informed in the "Information Society"?

-It is said that today's generation can get news information instantly because of today's technology.
-Rather then having to wait until the next day to hear what happen.

In the "Yes" argument
They did a 16 month study on about 140 kids.  In the study they gave the kids computers and internet access for a few months and studied the kids learn skills.  This is how the yes argument was able to make a solid arguement because they had examples to prove their arguments.  From the study the kids reading skills had improved

In the "No" argument
It is hard to agree with their side because the no argument was more of a personal rant there no real evidence to support the argument.  in this arguement they talked about the spongebob thery and how the younger generation has a short attention span.  That they have a hard time focusing on one topic for a long period of time.

Personally I think that as a younger generation we are better informed about news, but as far as being more knowledgable we may not be.  I feel we can get information faster but as far as being able to retain the information I don't feel we retain it as much.
